Septic Chlorine Tablet Problems When Storing – Chlor Mor Issues

B&B Alternative Septic Solutions, LLC has received numerous phone calls and e-mails with regards to chlorine tablets, dissolving or disassociating when stored.  We have thoroughly reviewed this issue and have determined that the NORWECO bio-sanitizer chlorine tablets do not have this problem.

Clients that have contacted us have further indicated that when storing Chor Mor chlorine tablets, the tablets seem to dissolve or disassociate when stored for any period of time.  We feel that this problem is due to inferior binding agents in the chlorine tablets production.

B&B Alternative Septic Solutions, LLC thoroughly tested the NORWECO bio sanitizer tablets and found little or no problem with the chlorine tablets, dissolving or disassociating when stored for over a year period of time.  You should always make certain that the storage containers or sealed tightly.  Apparently, Chor Mor tablet storage containers may have poor seals should be thoroughly checked to make certain that they are airtight.  In any event, Chor Mor tablets appeared to be susceptible to dissolving when exposed to air.

We strongly recommend NORWECO bio-sanitizer chlorine tablets as the best chlorine tablets on the market.  Pay a couple dollars more and get the best, most reliable tablets on the market.  Our studies indicate little or no dissolving or disassociation of the chlorine tablet blends produced by NORWECO.

Once again, NORWECO products are proven over 100-years.  NORWECO’s long track-record providing quality products is unparalleled by the competition.  Why take a chance on these new startup companies, which do not have the hundred-year track record, that NORWECO has.  B&B Alternative Septic Solutions, LLC offers septic chlorine tablets, and wastewater chlorine tablets  at discounted online pricing.  A quick check of Chor Mor pricing versus our pricing, indicates that we are priced lower than the Chor Mor competitors.  Don’t settle for inferior products, buy the best, buy NORWECO.

Sewage Wastewater Chlorine Tablet Feeder Design Considerations

By: Bruce Hardboss, PE

This article discusses minimum sewage wastewater chlorine-tablet-feeder design considerations.  As a wastewater engineer, I routinely see application of wastewater tablet feeders for chlorination designs that are not well thought out.  This article will highlight the NORWECO tablet feeder designs since we feel that the NORWECO tablet feeders are the best on the market.  The principles that we present are recommendations for you to implement in your design.

Feeder Tube

Tablet feeders generally have some sort if tube which is filled with the chlorine tablets.  The tube is easily removed for re-filling.  As noted in the figure below, the tube is slotted on the bottom, which allows the wastewater to contact the chlorine tablets, dissolving them, and thusly chlorinated in the wastewater stream.  The tube feeder product that you select should have a removable tube, such as the NORWECO design.

Tiered flow

The second design consideration should include some sort of tiered flow.  As in the figure above, as the flow is increased the width and depth of the tiered flow should also be increased.  This allows for, under low flow conditions, wetting of only the first tablet in the tablet tube.  This tiered flow design significantly reduces the rate that the tablets are expended.  In addition, under low flow conditions better chlorination due to contact with the first tablet is achieved.  The tablet feeder that you select should have a tiered flow design.

Tiered Flow Considerations

Warrantee.

Tablet feeder that you select should also have a minimum warranty of 20-years.  Tablet feeders that come with a 20-year warranty, generally, are made from superior materials that resist corrosion, cracking and deterioration.  So if the tablet feeder that you select does not have a 10-year warranty.  I would suspect that the materials used are substandard.

Installation

The NORWECO tablet feeders also come within a unique feature.  At the base of the tablet feeder holding tube, 4 inch PVC piping can be glued or sealed on the top of the tablet feeder.  This feature allows you to bury the tablet feeder deeper than the standard riser tubes.  The PVC piping thickness can be increased to schedule 80, which allows for superior protection of the feeder riser tubes from the surrounding soil.  Alternatively, the NORWECO IT series tablet feeders include plastic direct burial risers, which are generally used in commercial applications. As we increase daily wastewater flow-rates, the tablet feeders increase the number of tablet feeder tubes, as noted in the figure below:

Increased Number of Chlorine Tubes With Increased Flow Rates

Conclusions

As you shop around for your next tablet feeder, we strongly recommend the NORWECO line of products.  NORWECO is been in operation for over 100 years.  NORWECO’s products are seasoned, and continuously improved.  If you are considering purchasing or installing a tablet feeder in your present system, then please consider the designs options that we have presented in this article.  If you are interested in our NORWECO products, please click on any one of the images in this article, or merely go to the NORWECO products page on this website.  Our recommendations are written by a registered professional engineer with a strong background in wastewater engineering.

Sewage Wastewater Treatment – Disinfection Via Chlorine UV and Ozone

Article by Hardboss

In wastewater treatment, the effluent sewage stream is sometimes disinfected. Disinfection is accomplished, generally, by either using contact

chlorination, ultraviolet (UV) processes or by applying Ozone. Disinfection is generally required if the waste stream has the potential to come into contact with the general population, or drinking water supplies. The overall goal is to reduce the infection risk to the surrounding population.

Chlorine Disinfection

The least expensive and most common type of disinfection is by chlorination. Generally, the wastewater stream passes over chlorine tablets (known as contact chlorination) which increases the chlorine concentration in the wastewater. The increased chlorine concentration is very effective in killing most harmful pathogens.

The second type of contact chlorination is a batch process. In batch application(s), the wastewater fills a large tank, where sufficient chlorine is added to kill most pathogens. In batch processing, the chlorine is added manually as a powder or as chlorine gas.

In sensitive areas, the chlorinated wastewater stream can be passed through de-chlorination tablet feeders to neutralize the chlorine prior to discharge. One disadvantage is that salts are introduced into the environment via the chlorination/de-chlorination process.

Ultraviolet Disinfection

Ultraviolet disinfection (UV) uses no chemical in the treatment, and the treated water is not subjected to the salts produced in chlorination processes. One significant disadvantage is that the UV disinfection systems require constant maintenance and a power source. UV light bulbs or windows must be cleaned regularly and bulbs replaced.

Ozone Disinfection

Third type of chlorination method is Ozone. Ozone if a very effective and fast-acting disinfection method. Generally, the Ozone is produced onsite and is introduced into the waste stream. Ozone disinfection requires higher power supplies to run, but is relatively safe. Maintenance requirements complicates the Ozone process and its reliability.

We recommend using Chlorination tablet feeders and the applicable Chlorine tablets to disinfect most wastewater streams. We feel that the NORWECO Chlorine tablet feeders, and the NORWECO Disinfection tablets are the best on the market. Please visit our online store for pricing.
